Congratulations to Pratibha Nerurkar for winning the 2020 Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research and Creative Work! The Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering Associate Professor was recognized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR). She is one of only two UHM faculty each year who are honored with this award.
When the COVID-19 epidemic hit Hawai‘i, Professor Samir Khanal of the Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering reached out to his friends and colleagues in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Macao, asking them for face masks for a good cause. When they arrived, he generously donated them—all 1,000 masks!
Professor Qing Li, who has continually broken new ground in agricultural chemistry since joining CTAHR’s Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering in 1995, was awarded the 2020 UH Board of Regents’ Excellence in Research Award.
We must use all scientific tools at our disposal, including fast and accurate testing and more effective treatments, to shorten the course of the epidemic and lessen its devastating effects on human life and the economy, MBBE professor David Christopher argues in a recent Star-Advertiser editorial.
For his research into Raman spectroscopy as a potential early avenue for diagnosing and identifying cancers based on their molecular “fingerprint,” MBBE graduate student Robert Oda was previously awarded a Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship. This coming Monday, April 6, at 11:00 a.m., Robert will present the results of his subsequent research and defend his PhD dissertation…and you are invited online.
