UH Plans for Fall Re-Opening

President Lassner outlines safety and support measures

UH will resume in-person classes on all 10 campuses beginning August 24, 2020. To deploy a COVID19-aware safe approach, planning is now beginning for the necessary changes across the campuses. UH is also preparing for greater use of online resources and some classes shifting to hybrid modes, with a mix of on-campus and online instruction.

Hawai‘i Island food distribution system is a win-win

With farmers are being hurt by reduced sales and loss of markets during the COVID-19 crisis, the Hawai‘i Farm Bureau (HFB), in partnership with the County of Hawai‘i and generous non-profit entities, has developed a program to purchase produce and meats from commercial farmers and livestock producers on Hawai‘i Island for distribution to families in need. The Food Basket and other channels will distribute the products.

Hand sanitizer donation supports fruit donation

MBBE’s Fermentation Biochemistry class, and their mock company 3Rewery, have donated more than 6 liters of hand sanitizer to the volunteers at the Urban Garden Center. Four liters went to the UGC’s Fruit Hui, a dedicated group of six volunteers who continue to meet every week to maintain the tropical fruit orchard and harvest fruit—which is entirely donated to the Hawaii Foodbank.
