Familiar Faces in New Places: Rosemary Gutierrez-Coarite

Welcome to Rosemary Gutierrez-Coarite (TPSS), who began her new career as the Maui County Edible Crops agent on Friday, February 15! Rosemary is right at home in the college, having previously worked as a junior researcher with Mark Wright (PEPS), primarily on integrated pest management of the macadamia felted coccid.

Her previous professional experience includes work in the areas of monitoring insect pests in maize fields, assessing insect pest abundance, and mycotoxin concentrations in corn, as well as work on a number of other edible crops such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, bell peppers, and wine grapes. Many of those crops are grown right on Maui—think Kula strawberries or ‘Ulupalakua wine!—so Rosemary will be in great demand.

You can drop Rosemary a line to say hi at gr6@hawaii.edu or give her a call at (808)244-3242 ext. 232.
