This year’s annual conference of the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) was held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki, Sept. 23–27. Among the 1,100 attendees representing local, national, and international institutions were dozens of CTAHR faculty, students, and alumni. This was a prime opportunity for members of our College community to share research, make connections, and contribute as keynote speakers, presenters, session moderators, panel discussion participants, judges, and competitors.
Presenters and moderators from CTAHR’s Dept. of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences (TPSS) included professors Noa Lincoln, Kent Kobayashi, Orville Baldos, Tessie Amore, and Mikey Kantar; and extension faculty Amjad Ahmad, Alberto Ricordi, Rosemary Gutierrez Coarite, Hannah Lutgen, and Russell Galanti. CTAHR student presenters included Jaclyn Uy, Jacob Olarti, Andrew Bohringer, Ben Wiseman, YaTing Chang, and Jonathan Kobayashi.
CTAHR alumna Heidi Bornhorst delivered a keynote speech about native Hawaiian plants for the landscape and also conducted a live podcast about breadfruit conservation. Other CTAHR alumni participating in the conference included Kauahi Perez, Tiare Silvasy, Gabriel Sachter-Smith, Nathan Fumia, Anna McCormick, Erin Yafuso, Jon Suzuki, Michael Opgenorth, and Ryan Domingo.
Mahalo to everyone who represented our College at ASHS 2024.
