Sales Up 12%

CTSA reports good news for the state

Sales Up 12%

Hawaiʻi aquaculture sales leaped 12% from 2021 to 2022. What’s more, this $10M increase helped the industry reach an all-time record high of $89.6 million in production value, reports Cheng-Sheng Lee in the latest newsletter from the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture.

But although environment-friendly algal and other forms of non-fed aquaculture are doing well, the industry must continue to work toward expanding fed aquaculture species. To tackle feed source and price challenges, CTSA will co-lead an afternoon workshop Oct. 26 to discuss production costs and identify strategies to lower feed costs.
