Kauaʻi Extension gives Mazie Hirono the grand tour

Senator’s Stop

U.S. Senator Maize Hirono received the red carpet treatment August 14 as she toured the Kauaʻi Agricultural Research Center along with Extention agents, specialists, and Jeremy Elliott-Engel, CTAHRʻs new Associate Dean & Director for Cooperative Extension.

During the visit, Jeremy and CTAHR’s 4-H Hawaiʻi program presented U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono with a framed “4-H Grows Here” sign to thank her for supporting us. Recently, she was also recognized as the 2023 Hawaiʻi 4-H Aliʻi recipient at its annual Ahaolelo Conference.

“We were honored to host Senator Hirono at our Agriculture Experiment Station on Kauaʻi,” says Jeremy. “These facilities are essential for ensuring food security in Hawai’i. We appreciate the chance to personally showcase the opportunities – as well as challenges – we have in Agriculture research, innovation, and Extension efforts due to the deferred maintenance at our research stations.”

Her staff member noted, “Thank you for hosting Senator Hirono at your wonderful facility. She enjoyed her stay and continues to seek ways as to how she can help in the field of agriculture.”
