Join FCS in a free Valentine’s Day ikebana workshop

Share Your Love

Want to tell that special someone how much they mean to you AND support a worthy cause?

RSVP now and then head over to UH Campus Center Courtyard on Sunday, February 12, 10:30 a.m. to noon for a free ikebana flower arrangement workshop with CTAHR’s Home Garden Network (HGN).

In collaboration with Mental Health Kokua and FETCH (Family Education Training Center of Hawaii) HGN will spread the love this Valentine’s Day through ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement. Participants will make two arrangements, one to keep and one to donate to Mental Health Kokua, which has assisted people with mental health and related challenges in order to achieve optimum recovery and functioning in the community for almost half a century.

“Ikebana can help people connect, learn from each other, and inspire people to grow plants at home,” says Sothy Eng of the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences. “I believe ikebana highlights the simple beauty of backyard ferns and flowers, and allows participants to create something unique from the heart.”

HDFS student Kylie Maemori-Yoshida and also an HGN intern, adds, “We hope this workshop provides a fun, meaningful experience for the community and allows people of all ages (from keiki to kūpuna) to learn and engage with one another.”

RSVP now to confirm your spot – flowers are limited. For any questions, contact Kylie at kyliemy@hawaii.edu.
