An Insect Alarm

Helen Spafford is quoted in an Entomology Today article on the large and worrying decline in insects recently reported by a German study.

Though not connected with the study, the Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences associate professor was asked to comment because she had co-authored the Entomological Society of America’s 2017 position paper on endangered insect species and arthropod biodiversity.

Spafford agrees that the study should concern scientists and others, sounding the alarm about potential cascading effects. “We can’t just turn it off or switch it back to snooze. We need to wake up.”
