Bee on Screen

A video team headed by Ethel Villalobos, from Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences, has received two awards from the Entomological Society of America

The Odd Couples addresses the ancient relationship between flowering plants and pollinators. It received the Stinger Award, placing second in the Entomological Society of America’s 2017 Annual Conference video competition.

The Life History of Bees introduces the viewer to a variety of bee species and their life cycles; although the emphasis is on honeybees, the video includes natural history information about wild bees in the tropics and temperate regions. It won first place in the Plant-Insect Ecosystems section’s Pollinator Video Competition.

Both videos are the result of a group effort from graduate students, researchers, and a video editor/graphic designer. They collaborated in the script writing, voice talent, video and photography, and 2D and 3D animation. And they are beautiful, informative, and fun to watch.
