Shining Bright at the 31st SRS

66 students from diverse fields of study presented their research—and creativity—at the 31st Student Research Symposium on April 15.
Changing up the format this year, the event challenged undergraduate and graduate students to communicate their work in just five minutes, in language appropriate to a lay audience. Even the new topics—Product Design and Business; Sustainability & Conservation; Food Systems, Security, & Safety; Biotechnology; and Healthy Families & Resilient Communities—were designed to reflect real-world experiences.

“In this day and age, it is critical for all members of our scientific community to be able to communicate effectively with those outside our fields,” says Interim Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Ania Wieczorek.

“This event helps participants to develop their presentation and communications skills so as to explain their work concisely and effectively,” she adds. “In turn, we hope the audience will gain new perspective and knowledge. CTAHR is proud to support the next generation of professionals.”

To further support CTAHR students toward these research and presentation goals, the college awarded more than $20,000 to Symposium winners. These students will also present a summary of their research at the 31st Annual Banquet on May 10. Best undergraduate and graduate student presentations were given by Sabrina Haverly (HNFAS) and Priscilla Seabourn (PEPS)—congratulations!
