THEY’RE AWARE
Put together good weather, Pearl City, and 5th-graders, and what do you get? Agriculture and Environmental Awareness Day 2018! Over 500 students and teachers attended this annual event at the OUGC to learn about the importance of agriculture and the environment in the community and to find out more about career opportunities in agriculture and environmental studies in Hawai‘i. Interactive exhibits and presentations included information about xeriscape gardening and fruit growing from the O‘ahu Master Gardeners program, plus exhibits on nutrition for wellness and on invasive species. The UH Honeybee Project showed how honey is extracted from the comb, and other CTAHR groups and departments offered fun and educational exhibits. State agencies and community partners included the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Association, the Hawai‘i Wildfire Management Organization, and the Aloha Arborist Association, Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture’s Plant Quarantine Branch, Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership, and many more. A big mahalo goes out to all of the helping hands who worked to make this day a success! You can check out pictures on CTAHR's Flickr page here.
