Voice of the Sea episode about CTAHR wins a Telly Award

Taking Home a Bronze

The Hawai’i Sea Grant center was awarded a Bronze Telly Award for educational institution programming for its episode on some CTAHR programs and faculty. This episode of Voice of the Sea explores traditional farming practices, indigenous plants, and chemicals in the aquatic environment and their effects on food fishes.

Mehana Vaughan, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, welcomes viewers with an ‘oli to the coastal community of Wanini (Anini), Kaua’i, and shares knowledge of this special place.

Viewers then meet Noa Lincoln, Department of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences. to learn about the science and importance of traditional farming practices and growing indigenous food crops like ‘ulu and kō with

Andre Seale, Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences, ends the episode with a discussion of his research on tilapia. The fish have the ability to live in fresh or salt water by adjusting their internal physiology.

The video also features stellar footage by Godwin Polendey of CTAHR’s Office of Communication Services.

Voice of the Sea is a video series that highlights researchers and cultural practitioners throughout the Pacific region. The Telly Awards annually recognize the best television and video work throughout the US and across five continents.
