Cooking Demonstration

 

Food Science & Human Nutrition (FSHN) Instructor Lara Hackney will be whipping up some easy fall themed treats and you are welcome to watch the demonstration! There will be three demonstrations offered throughout the day.  Sign-up at the Academic and Student Affairs table.

  • 10:30 AM - Kabocha Pork Stir Fry
  • 11:30 AM - Restaurant-Quality Brussels Sprouts and Blood Orange & Pomegranate Thyme Spritzer

University of Hawaii Insect Museum

 

The University of Hawaii Insect Museum houses more than 500,000 insect specimens used to help students and researchers study everything from evolution, conservation, to the spread of invasive species! There will be four tours offered throughout the day.  Sign-up at the Academic and Student Affairs table.

GENE-ius Day

 

GENE-ius Day will be leading a series of short mini lessons where students will be introduced to the unification of biotechnology and agriculture. Sign-up at the Academic and Student Affairs table.

 

Grades 7-12

Learn about the critical connection between biotechnology and agriculture! Participants will get to perform a lab procedure – a real method used by scientists who work with DNA! Mini-lessons will be 30 minutes long.

Learn the importance of agriculture for growing our food and how scientists help farmers by making food easier to grow. Participants will learn why DNA is important in agriculture and perform a DNA extraction! Mini-lessons will be 30 minutes long.
